PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to comparatively freely utilize contents recorded on a disk depending on the preference.

SOLUTION: When downloading of an audio file in Japanese is instructed, an update file of contents recorded on an optical disk 11 is downloaded. As the update file, an Audio stream file being the audio file in Japanese, a Clip Information file associated therewith, a Play List file for controlling reproduction of the Audio stream file, and an updated navigation program file are recorded on a local storage 12. An updated navigation program reproduces e.g., an Audio stream file of a Clip 3 in Japanese. The information providing system or the like is applicable to players to / from which a recording medium with contents recorded thereon is attachable / detachable.
