PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for assembling an optical unit having superior quality and high reliability. SOLUTION: An optical axis O4 of one optical element 4 of a plurality of optical elements 3 and 4 is obtained. Then, at least one of the other optical element 3 having a bent portion 36, whose flat shape is circular on the optical element surface of the outer periphery of an optical function surface 26, is irradiated with light beams and the reflected light beams are received by an image pickup element 22 to obtain an image 24. Then, an optical axis O3 of the other optical element 3 is obtained based on a plurality of coordinate information on the detected circle formed by the bend in the above image. Finally, the optical axes O3 and O4 of the optical elements 3 and 4 are matched with each other by relatively moving the one optical element 4 and the other optical element 3.
