PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder/player capable of reducing consumption power by improving image quality and thus capable of driving for a long time by an internal power source. SOLUTION: The image recorder/player includes an image decompression circuit 12, an image quality improvement circuit 13 for improving the image quality of an image signal, a switch 14 for selecting one of the decompressed image signal and the quality-improved image signal for outputting, internal image display devices 17 and 18 for displaying a reproduced image, a driving circuit 15 for supplying the selected image signal to the internal image display devices and an externally connected television receiver 30, a connection detection circuit 16 for detecting that the television receiver is not connected, and a control means 19 for stopping the operation of the image quality improvement circuit and controlling the switch to cause the image signal of the image decompression circuit to be selected, all of which are driven by a built-in power source respectively.
