PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new planar light source device having a light emitting face with a larger area than a light emitting face of an EL element. SOLUTION: The planar light source 11 is provided with a first planar light source 14 in which an organic EL element 13 is installed on a light incident face 12a of a transparent substrate 12, and a second planar light source 15 which pinches the first planar light source 14 and which is arranged at its both sides. The second planar light source 15 is provided with a light guide plate 20 optically continuing at the end face of the transparent substrate 12. The transparent substrate 12 and the light guide plate 20 are integrally formed, the center part of a sheet of a glass plate constitutes the transparent substrate 12, and its both sides constitutes the light guide plate 20. The second planar light source 15 is provided with an LED 21 as a light source except for the organic EL element, and the LED 21 is arranged so as to be opposed to the end face of the light guide plate 20. A plurality of light dispersion parts 22 provided with an interface to disperse incident light from a light incident face 20a are installed in the light guide plate 20. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
