PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exterior character display device having a rainproof structure, which can accuratery display characters even in a position with low sunlight in the morning and afternoon without being affected by sunlight. SOLUTION: In an exterior character display device 6, a character display unit 1 provided with a display panel 2 for displaying luminous characters thereon is stored in a cover 4 with eaves, which has an opening part 5 in at least one surface side, so that the opening part 5 is on the surface side of the display panel 2, and the character display unit 1 is so installed that the display panel 2 is inclined forward in the cover 4 with eaves.
