PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner which suppresses light intensity variation on a non-scanning surface even if the polarizing direction of an optical beam outputted from a light source is unstable when part of the optical beam outputted from the light source is separated to scan the non-scanning surface and light intensity of the light source is controlled so that separated light intensity shows predetermined light intensity. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is constituted so that a window glass plate 32 (non-coat transparent parallel plate) having polarization dependence of reflection to the incident angle of the optical beam is inserted onto an optical path of a monitor beam separated by a half mirror 20 and made incident on an MPD 30 by inclining the window glass plate to an optical axis by an inclination angleθso that the rate of fluctuation of main beam light intensity on a photo conductor 50 which is generated by the change of the polarizing direction when the polarizing direction of an output beam of VCSEL 12 changes approximately coincides with the rate of fluctuation of the monitor beam made incident on the MPD30.
