PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thrust bearing capable of effectively suppressing heat generation in an abutting part of a rolling element, an inner ring, and an outer ring by supplying lubricating oil into the bearing without impairing durability of a holder and to provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission provided with this thrust bearing. SOLUTION: This thrust bearing 1 is provided with the outer ring 2 fixed and supported so as to prevent its rotation, the rotatable inner ring 4, a plurality of rolling elements 8 rolling between the inner ring 4 and the outer ring 2, and the holder 6 provided with a plurality of pockets 22 holding the plurality of these rolling elements 8 individually so as to roll to support thrust load applied toward an outer ring 2 side from an inner ring 4 side.
