PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relate generally to a turbine engine, particularly to a method and device for determining the effective service life of a coating on the component of the turbine engine. SOLUTION: A laser pulse spectrometer system includes a computer program which is embodied on a computer readable medium for controlling the laser pulse spectrometer system. The computer program includes a code segment which gives a remote order to the system to evaporate (110) the coating layer on the component of a turbine 18 with a laser after receiving user selective input data, measure (120) a radiation ray emitted from the surface of the component to find the chemical composition of the coating, analyze (130) the chemical composition of the coating corresponding to the depth of the laser, and calculate (140) the effective service life of the coating on the component.
