PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of a motor drive device by performing temperature protection of a non-heat generating part with which the motor drive device for an electric compressor is provided. SOLUTION: Temperature of a photo coupler 7a as a non-heat generating part which can not directly exchanges heat with intake coolant easily in parts and elements constructing an inverter 13 driving an electric motor 12 is detected by a thermistor 70. When temperature of the photo coupler rises and enters a warning temperature range, rotation speed of the electric motor 12 is increased by a predetermined amount and cooling effect of the inverter 13 by intake coolant is increased to suppress temperature rise of the photo coupler. When detected temperature rises more and exceeds operation proven temperature and enters an abnormal temperature range, self-cut off turning current in the non-heat generating parts off is performed to increase a margin in relation to temperature to storage proven temperature.
