PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting an abnormal thread, capable of continuously detecting, with accuracy, an abnormal part of a traveling thread even in a solution dry-spinning process of producing an elastic yarn. SOLUTION: The method for detecting the abnormal thread in the spinning step comprises setting, in the solution spinning process of spinning a polymer spinning solution, a detecting device 27 (a gas detector or the like) for chemicals released from a thread 31 at or near the position contacting to the thread spun from a spinning nozzle 21 so as to detect the occurrence of the abnormal thread, and detecting occurrence of the abnormal thread by change of the released chemicals amount.
