A micro-channel plate has the shape of a section of a hollow ellipsoid of little wall thickness (h) with inner (4) and outer (5) field mesh electrodes. It also consists of sintered polycrystalline silicon grains (3) of non-metallic conductive material that have a coating of strontium oxide. The size and shape distribution of the grains is adapted to range of application. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a micro-channel plate for multiplying electrons.
