<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contrast adjusting technique for properly adjusting the contrast of a face region in a density characteristic curve to be used for density correction of photographed image data including the face region. <P>SOLUTION: The contrast adjusting apparatus consists of a face detecting unit 40 for detecting the face region from the photographed image data; a proper correction module 60 for determining a proper density characteristic curve and a proper density correction value on the basis of the photographed image data; a base density calculating section 72 for calculating a base density value of the photographed image data; a face contrast coefficient calculating section 73 for calculating a face contrast coefficient from the difference between the face mean density and the base density value; a face contrast determining section 74 for determining a face contrast on the basis of maximum/minimum density values of the face region, the face contrast coefficient, and the proper density correction value; and a density characteristic curve determining module 80 for adjusting the contrast of the face region in the proper density characteristic curve, by combining the face contrast with the proper density characteristic curve. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
