METHOD OF WELDING/COATING CORROSION-RESISTANT THIN METALLIC SHEET TO SURFACE OF THICK METALLIC BASE MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of welding/coating a splash zone in a metallic structure such as a marine structure and a bridge with a corrosion-resistant thin metallic sheet.

SOLUTION: In coating the surface of a thick metallic base material with a corrosion-resistant thin metallic sheet (the sheet), the adjacent sheets are superposed on each other at the ends, with only the sheets fusion welded together at the superposed part by laser welding. Before this laser welding, it is desirable from the aspect of workability that the sheets are fixed on the thick metallic base material by spot welding or resistance seam welding. In addition, a space between the sheets at the superposed part is preferably kept at 0.3 mm or below at the place on which the laser welding is performed.
