PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat discharge tube capable of enhancing emission luminance by increasing internal gas pressure in a discharge space and by reducing flexural stress always imposed on a glass flat plate, and allowing the thickness of a glass substrate to be reduced. SOLUTION: When a luminance rateμis 1.3, a productαof pressure P in the discharge space and a discharge distance (d) is calculated byα=P×d=35 kPa×0.5 mm=17.5 (mm kPa). In order to set the luminance rateμ≥1.3, a light emission condition is set in a region of P≥17.5/d. By setting it like that, luminance of this flat discharge tube as an illuminating lamp can be secured. In addition, by satisfying 35kPa≤P≤100kPa, an optimum condition for realizing 1.3≤μ≤3.0 can be provided, and the thickness of the glass substrate can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
