PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat panel display device preventing the breakage of a spacer and maintaining a space between an upper side substrate and a lower side substrate constant to prevent the deterioration of a image quality resulted from the change in space, a manufacturing method for the spacer and a manufacturing method for the display device. SOLUTION: The display device includes a vacuum container 6 including a first and a second substrates 2, 4 disposed opposite to each other with a prescribed space and maintaining its inside vacuum; and a plurality of spacers 8 disposed between the first and the second substrates 2, 4. Each spacer includes a spacer main body 8a and a buffer layer 8b provided with an end part of the main body 8a facing either the first substrate 2 or the second substrate 4 and positioned so as to fill the gap between either the first or second substrate 2, 4 and the end part of the main body 8a.
