PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically select jog feeding and step feeding as needed, without switching a mode in hand feeding of a wire electric discharge machine. SOLUTION: When an axial moving key is pressed, the time thus pressed is measured by a timer (S1). When the key is turned off before a set time to switch to jog feeding (S12), step feeding is performed, and the axis is moved by a predetermined amount (S13). When the key keeps pressed until a time of switching to the jog feeding (S2), the jog feeding is started, and the axis is moved at a low speed (S3). Also, when the key keeps pressed until the time of switching to a medium speed, a feed axis is driven at a medium speed, and when the key keeps pressed until the time of switching to a high speed, the feed axis is driven at a high speed (S3 to S9). Depending on an elapsed time during which the axial moving key keeps pressed, the step feeding or the jog feeding (further the speed) is automatically determined.
