PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a miniaturized image display device because an image display device manufactured on the basis of conventional technology has structure in which an projection unit and a scanning mirror are furnished on the outer face of the temple of a spectacles type frame and does not sufficiently meet the need of miniaturization. SOLUTION: The image display device 1 is provided with: a modulated light output part 9 which outputs modulated light H modulated with picture information; a first scanning part 11 which scans a reflection mirror with the modulated light H in a first direction; a second scanning part 13 which scans the reflection mirror with the modulated light H in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction; a relay optical system 12 provided between the first scanning part 11 and the second scanning part 13, wherein a picture is displayed by scanning the reflection mirror with the modulated light H, and wherein a front frame 3 and a spectacles type device frame body 2 mounted on the head part of a user of the apparatus by the temple 4 are provided and at least the relay optical system 12 is provided in the temple 4.
