PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blade tensioner capable of controlling behavior of a chain sufficiently. SOLUTION: This blade tensioner is provided with a blade shoe 2 having a chain slide face 2a curved like arc, a blade spring 3 for letting spring force act on the chain 10 through the blade shoe 2, and a base member 4 having a pin 41 supporting a terminal part 21 of the blade shoe 2 turnably and a slide face 42 supporting a tip part 22 of the blade shoe 2 slidably when the blade shoe 2 is deformed. A ratchet mechanism 6 regulating deformation onto a side where radius of curvature of the blade shoe 2 becomes large and allowing deformation onto a side where radius of curvature becomes small is provided in the terminal part 21 of the blade shoe. The ratchet mechanism 6 has rack teeth 60 formed on an outer peripheral face 21f of the terminal part 21 and a claw member 61 provided on the base member 4 and engaged with the rack teeth 60.
