PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive light-emitting material using an easily obtainable material and to provide a method for producing the light-emitting material with a simple apparatus. SOLUTION: The light-emitting material is obtained by coating an oxide semiconductor containing at least zinc oxide with an insulating oxide, wherein the oxide semiconductor contains, in addition, titanium oxide therein. The method for producing the light-emitting material, is carried out by coating the oxide semiconductor containing at least zinc oxide with the insulating oxide, followed by thermally treating the coated resultant at 200°C or higher.
