A pointer device (1) is provided in which an upstanding side (3) incorporates switches (4, 5) to enable operation of a computer or computer game console. The device (1) is arranged such that a housing (2) which extends from a base (6). Thus, a user's hand is substantially in a relaxed state in a perpendicular relationship to a surface upon which the device (1) operates. Generally, the base (6) includes a cavity or recess (7) for a user's little finger for positional orientation and operation of the pointer device with reduced fatigue or potential for repetitive strain injury.
