The device has at least one button with a cap (4) and at least two operating elements (5) arranged at a defined distance from each other on a side of the cap facing an electrical switching device (12) of the appliance. At least one operating element interacts with the switching device when the cap is operated to trigger at least one switching process and the operating element has an external diameter that decreases towards the cap. An independent claim is also included for a domestic appliance with an operating panel and at least one inventive button block.
