The burner for a pressurized water reactor has a burner element (2) with a foot (12) with a carrier structure for a number of fuel rods (4) where cool water (K) flows axially between them. The water flows into the burner foot with an inhomogeneous axial speed distribution, with the flow pattern smoothed out by a footplate (10), sieve mesh (20) and a distribution plate (30), before reaching the fuel rods to reduce flow-induced oscillations at the fuel rods.
