<p>A C black plant which consists of at least 2 C black production furnaces which produce different C blacks in provided with a safety system. The furnaces are supplied with hydrocarbon feed oil, air, fuel gas and feed oil, air for atomizing the oil respectively and emit a C black containing smoke. Common headers for the oil and air are provided. The safety system comprises a control means, including an electrical control system for the following power or material supply failures. For an electric power failure, fuel gas replaces off-gas from the plant as boiler fuel by the opening and shutting of 2 valves on the boiler feed line, feed oil to both furnaces is switched to recycle by reversing 2 valves each on the oil feed lines, the air feed and atomizing air to the second furnace is shut off by closing 3 valves on the air feed lines and the smoke line from the second furnace is purged with steam by opening a valve on the steam line. For failures of fuel gas supply to the first furnace or of air, feed oil to both furnaces is switched to recycle as before, both smoke lines are purged with steam similarly to before, air to both reactors is shut off by closing 3 valves, air from the blower to air header is shut off by a valve, the steam turbine driving the air blower is shut by a valve on the steam line from the boiler to blower, a valve on the fuel gas supply line to the tangentially directed fuel header is shut and atomizing air to the second furnace is shut off bycl osing a valve on the feed line. For failure of the feed oil atomizing nozzle on the second furnace, feed oil on the second furnace is switched to recycle as before, the smoke line from the second furnace is purged as before, atomizing and process air to the second furnace is shut off as before. For failure of feed oil, two alarms are sounded for the first furnace, the second furnace experiences the same responses as for atomizing nozzle failure above and fuel gas is used as boiler fuel as before. A detailed illustration is given of a fully integrated C black plant comprising 2 furnaces producing different C blacks with the safety system operating electrically and air-operated motor valves.</p> |
