Diagnostic compositions for glucose comprising an enzyme having glucose oxidase activity, a substance having peroxidase activity, an indicator which is oxidized with colour change in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and said peroxidative substance are characterized by the presence as stabilizer of sodium alginate or carrageenin or gum guar. Specified oxidase enzymes, peroxidative compounds, indicators and other components are the same as those in Specification 911,181. In addition (a) it is stated that sodium and other molybdates may be used alone as peroxidative substance, (b) in an example, gallic acid is present as an antagonist substance changing the range in which the colour change takes place, (c) ethanol is used to dissolve the indicator, methanol, propanol, i-propanol and acetone being alternatives, and (d) glutamic acid, glycine and polypeptides are mentioned as alternatives to gelatin. The composition may be in the form of a tablet, powder or impregnated bibulous strip.
