A butane or propane gas lighter comprises a moulded plastic U-shaped body having limbs 2, 3a between which is held a gas cylinder 35 abutting a rib on the web 1, the upper flange 3a being forked to allow the lateral passage of a projection 35a on the cylinder therethrough. The web 1 houses a metal flint tube 10, and has two lateral lugs 5 perforated for a spindle 29 carrying a spark wheel 27 and knurled driving wheels 28. The lugs 5 have open bearings engaged by studs on a moulded plastic lever 17, 18a which opens the outlet valve of the gas cylinder. The rocking arm comprises a vertical arm 17 fitted in a notch 12 in the web 1, and a forked horizontal arm 18a which engages a collar 37 fixed to a valve rod 36. The lighter is enclosed by a U-section casing which is slid over the lighter into abutment with the flange 2. The casing is elastically locked by the engagement of lateral studs on a moulded plastic locking member 22, 24, with notches in the edges of the casing. The locking member is secured to the U-shaped member by the screw 32 which closes the end of the flint tube. |
