<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact motor which can detect its rotational position and a steering device for a vehicle which is equipped with the motor. <P>SOLUTION: Many projections 100 are arranged regularly in circumferential direction at the periphery 108 of a rotor 76 that the motor 50 with a built-in sensor has. The motor 50 is provided with an optical sensor 84 so as to detect the projection 100 as a detected element, whereby the rotational position of the rotor 76 (in short, the rotational position of the motor 50) can be detected. Moreover, in the steering device, the rotational position of a reaction motor can be detected, by using the above motor 50 with a built-in sensor as a reaction motor or the like for generating the operational reaction in a handle 20.
