PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display device that can realize a viewing angle close to that of a cathode-ray tube and controls display with an electric field parallel to a substrate surface, the liquid crystal display device being bright and has low power consumption. SOLUTION: Pixels are arranged in an area of intersection of a scanning signal line GL, a counter voltage signal line CL, and two adjacent video signal lines DL. Each pixel includes a thin-film transistor TFT, a storage capacitor Cstg, a pixel electrode PX, and a counter electrode CT. A plurality of scanning signal lines GL and counter voltage signal lines CL extend in right-left directions in Fig. and are vertically arranged. A plurality of video signal lines DL extend in a vertical direction and arranged in right-left directions. The pixel electrode PX is connected to the thin-film transistor TFT through a source electrode SD1 and the counter electrode CT is integrated with the counter voltage signal line GL. Two pixels which are adjacent vertically along the video signal line DL are so constituted that when they are folded along a line A in Fig., their plane constitutions are put one over the other. Consequently, a counter voltage can sufficiently be supplied from an external circuit to counter electrodes CT of respective pixels in the right-left directions. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
