PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminating apparatus for supplying illuminating light of high color purity and high brightness, and to provide a projector equipped with the illuminating apparatus. SOLUTION: The illuminating apparatus is provided with a light supply part having at least two light sources, that is, an LED 101Ga as a 1st light source for supplying 1st illuminating light IGa and an LED 101Gb as a 2nd light source for supplying 2nd illuminating light IGb having a wavelength band different from that of the 1st illuminating light IGa, and a dichroic mirror 103 for synthesizing the 1st illuminating light IGa and the 2nd illuminating IGb coming from different directions and emitting the synthesized light. The LEDs 101Ga and 101Gb and the dichroic mirror 103 are arranged so that the incident angleθ1 of the 1st illuminating light IGa incident on the dichroic mirror 103 is made nearly the same as the incident angleθ1 of the illuminating light IGb incident on the dichroic mirror 103, and also, the incident angleθ1 may become <45°.
