<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: when printing of an electronic mail including a new pictograph is instructed, the printing cannot be preformed by a pictograph pattern intended by a sender because an external character code designating the pictograph cannot be analyzed. <P>SOLUTION: In this recording device, a character code and an external character code included in the electronic mail are developed to image data in reference to a character font memory and a plurality of external character font data sets each storing an external character pattern corresponding to the external character code, and are stored in a recording medium on the basis of the developed image data.
