<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic material with high abrasion resistance or low friction, which is suitable for cutting tools, sliding members, materials for molds or the like. <P>SOLUTION: A ceramic composite material is composed of a phase mainly comprising carbon and a ceramic phase (excluding carbon), each having an average crystal grain size of not more than 3 μm, preferably not more than 30 nm. The ceramic phase is composed of at least one selected from the group consisting of nitrides, carbides, oxides, composite nitrides, composite carbides, composite oxides, carbonitrides, oxynitrides, carboxynitrides and carbonates of Al, Si, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W. This composite material is obtained by sintering a raw material powder at a sintering temperature of 800-1,500°C and a sintering pressure of not less than 200 MPa. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
