PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To draw an optical fiber preform with high precision without causing the bending of the optical fiber preform due to the deflection of a chuck supporting arm during drawing and without accompanying the modification of an apparatus. SOLUTION: In the method, the heating of the optical fiber preform by a heater is stopped in a point of time Te when the drawing is finished and after the stoppage of the heating, the optical fiber preform is maintained to receive the tension produced by the difference (Vb-Va) of the moving speed between a pulling side chuck and a sending side chuck.
