PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To normally reproduce a desired stream even if a stream_id described in media management information is different from the stream_id of an elementary stream read from a medium. SOLUTION: A system control unit 200 sets the stream_id of each reproduced elementary stream and the total number of streams in each elementary stream from management information read from a medium 100 (ST102). A stream separation unit 107 reads an MPEG stream from the medium and records the combination of the stream identification number thereof and a stream attribute thereof as a stream attribute table 136 (ST402). If the set stream_id cannot be detected from the MPEG stream by the stream separation unit 107, the system control unit 200 resets the stream_id of the reproduced elementary stream on the basis of the stream attribute table 136.
