PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining the total protein capable of avoiding the influence of dextrans in a specimen, and to provide a determining reagent. SOLUTION: Sugar alcohol is contained in a measurement reagent. The measurement method can be applied to methods, such as a biuret method, a method of Lowry et al., and a bicinchonic acid method, and especially a 2-reagent system biuret method is preferable. As the sugar alcohol, monosaccharide or polysaccharide of mannitol, sorbitol, arabinitol, myo-inositol, galactitol, and xylitol is used.
