PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium in which a surface property is good without deteriorating durability and a magnetic property and output is excellent in a short wavelength region, regarding a manufacturing method of the magnetic recording medium such as a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: This method is a manufacturing method of a coating type magnetic recording medium in which thickness of a magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic powder is 0.05-1.0μm, magnetic coating containing the ferromagnetic powder is applied on a support with shear rate of 150,000 sec<SP>-1</SP>or more.
