PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst carrier bringing a high activity to a catalyst activity species, particularly a catalyst carrier having Lewis acidity on the surface thereof, and to provide catalyst having higher metathesis activity than Herrmann catalyst. SOLUTION: The MX<SB>y</SB>-mesoAl<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>carrier includes at least one kind of metallic species M selected from the group consisting of Zn, Ti, Al, Fe and Mg, at least one kind of X selected from F, Cl, Br and I, and mesoporous alumina (mesoAl<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>), wherein y is over 0 and not more than 4, and an atomic ratio of Al of mesoAl<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>to M(Al/M)is 2-100. The metathesis reaction catalyst comprises methyltrioxorenium (MTO)/MX<SB>y</SB>-mesoAl<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>using this carrier. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
