PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start a generating machinery with low energy losses without providing a starter because a device exclusive for the starting is limited in the cost and the capacity though a generating machinery starting device (a starter) corresponding to frequent stops and starts of the generating machinery at an intersection or the like is required.

SOLUTION: An engagement gear speed change mechanism for selecting a gear train arranged between input and output shafts to perform speed change is used as a transmission, and furthermore, a motor 2 is connected to a differential device 111 of the input and output shafts to engage a plurality of mesh mechanisms of an input shaft 4 or an assist input shaft 54 with each other, and the motor 2 is driven. A generating machinery 1 is started thereby.
