PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producingω-mercaptoalkylpyridine with reduced byproduct of the compound represented by formula (III) (wherein R1and R2are each independently H or methyl; n is an integer of 0 through 2) even in the case where a relatively small amount of hydrogen sulfide is used. SOLUTION: A pyridine compound represented by formula (I) and hydrogen sulfide are allowed to react with each other in an organic solvent in the presence of a tertiary amine different from the pyridine compound to produceω-mercaptoalkylpyridine represented by formula (II) (wherein R1and R2are each independently H or methyl; n is an integer of 0 through 2).
