PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a self-crosslinkable resin that is cured alone without requiring a curing agent, provides a cured material having excellent chemical performance, physical performance and weather resistance and has excellent storage stability. SOLUTION: The self-crosslinkable resin having 1,000-1,000,000 weight-average molecular weight is obtained by using a compound containing a hydroxy group and an oxetane group in the same molecule and a compound containing one cyclic acid anhydride group and one carboxy group in one molecule or a compound containing two cyclic acid anhydride groups in one molecule, subjecting the hydroxy group and the cyclic acid anhydride group to ring-opening half esterification reactioin to give a compound containing a carboxy group and an oxetane group and subjecting the carboxy group of the compound and a divinyl (thio)ether compound to addition reaction.
