摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably ensure an excellent restartability by smoothly stopping an engine 1 rotating through inertia after a fuel cut and controlling a stopping position with high accuracy in the engine 1 automatically stopped at idle state and then restarted. SOLUTION: The fuel cut is performed at a set engine speed higher than an engine idle speed (t0), to open a throttle valve 23 at a predetermined period (t1 to t2), thereafter each engine speed when each of cylinders 12A to 12D sequentially passes a TDC is detected, to adjust an opening of the throttle valve 23 based on the detected TDC engine speed (TVO), whereby a track of lowering engine speed is gradually modified so that the TDC engine speed is in an appropriate engine speed range by the time of passing the last TDC at the latest (to t3). Accordingly, after passing the last TDC, a piston 13 is stopped within a predetermined region R suitable for restarting in an expansion stroke cylinder 12 of the engine 1 which is naturally stopped.
