A flat display device comprises substrate (1); first electrode (2) on the substrate; second electrode above the first electrode; pixel regions having light emitting layers interposed between the first and second electrodes; and barriers (3) formed on a portion between the pixel regions and with layer(s). The barriers have a groove (6) formed on its side(s). An independent claim is also included for a method of forming a groove on a barrier between pixels to a flat panel display comprising forming the first electrode layer on a substrate; forming a barrier between pixel regions formed by the first electrode layer; forming a photo-resist on part of the barrier; plasma etching regions where photo-resist is not formed; and removing the photo-resist.
