The smallest distance between a relatively thick region of the main body (2) of the profile (1) and an opposing flange (4) protruding from this body is less than the thickness of the false ceiling panel. The thick region protrudes sufficiently from the main body for a panel to be fixed between this region and one of the flanges. The profile comprises a main body with flanges protruding from it for supporting the edges of false ceiling panels. The main body has a relatively thick region located at a distance from the flanges and protruding above them. Each end of the main body forms a nose which is at a lower height than the main body and this nose has a bridge which is located closer to the thick region than to the flanges and a nose line (6) which is located closer to the flanges than to the thick region, so that the nose can be inserted into a slot in a main beam in the frame. The main body contains a space between the bridge of the nose and the thick region so that the beam can be rotated about its length axis relative to the profile when the nose is inserted into the slot. The thick region comprises an auxiliary profile (20).
