A first core 11 of a pair 11, 12 is re-set to a state 1 by coincident pulses from the output terminal of the second core 12 and from the setting terminal of core 12. If pulses occur cyclically at t1, t2, t3 as shown, the two cores act as a gate for pulses at instants t3, or as an AND element for sequential pulses p (t1 (reset 12) t2 (set 12, reset 11), t3 (set 11). The gate can be closed by pulse q at instant t 1 between instants t1 and t2. The output given by core 12 in response to pulse q is insufficient to set core 11 and the pulse at interval t2 has no effect on the core 12 already set. In Fig. 9, the feedback of a setting pulse from core 13 to core 14 enables the gate to be opened and closed by single pulses p and q at instants t1 of the cycle. Shift register, Fig. 10.-Cores are coupled in the manner shown in Fig. 8. Information is fed to core 20 on terminal 29 at instant t1. Information set in cores 20, 22, 24 is transferred to cores 21, 23, 25 by a pulse on terminal 30 at instant t2 and is stepped on to cores 22, 24, 20 by a pulse on terminal 31 at instant t4. A pulse on terminal 32 at instant t3 between instants t2 and t4 clears the register. When operating, the register gives outputs on terminals 26, 27, 28. Single core.-Each core 1, Fig. 1, has a reset winding 6, a set winding 7, a feedback winding 8 and a control winding 10 in the base circuit of a transistor 2 so arranged that the transistor aids the resetting operation started by a pulse on terminal 4 and is non-conductive during the setting operation. Two cores 1<SP>1</SP> and 1<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 12, may be combined with a single transistor 2 in one unit so that the same set windings 7, feedback windings 8, and control windings 10 are common to both cores. Each core has two set windings so arranged that a signal is required on both set windings on a core to set the core. Alarm circuits.-A break in a stream of pulses may be detected by the arrangement shown in Fig. 9 in combination with a slow-to-release relay (Figs. 14, 15, not shown).
