<PICT:0846671/IV(a)/1> The orifices in a spinning plate are arranged in parallel rows and at mutually equal distances in all rows, the orifices in successive rows being staggered with regard to each other by half a pitch and the distances between successive rows increasing continuously, preferably according to an arithmetical progression. Filaments may be melt spun through such a spinning plate, gaseous cooling medium being directed transversely on to the freshly-spun threads, in a direction transverse to the rows in which the orifices are arranged and preferably from the side where the distance between successive rows is least. |
