Water to be treated by ion-exchange enters stationary bed of mixed exchangers A through pipe 1 and purified water is discharged at 7. An exhausted similar bed or beds B is transferred to storage vessel C via pipes 181 and 191 by operation of pump 11. The exhausted resin mixture may be separated into components in separator D and regenerated separately in columns E and F and stored in vessels G and H respectively. When regeneration is complete the resins are hydraulically conveyed to mixer 29 and returned to vessel B ready for B to act as the treatment vessel and A to be regenerated.
