The system has a generator (2), at least one battery for supplying the starter via a starter cable, whereby the battery is connected to the generator by a charging cable and a device is arranged between the generator and the battery to prevent current from flowing from the battery towards the generator. The starter and charging cables are implemented as a common cable (5), whereby a starter-battery switch (7) is arranged parallel to the device and a starter switch (9) is arranged parallel to the starter (3). The starter-battery switch and the starter switch are only closed during the starting process.
