A ring resonator comprises a ring waveguide ( 12 ) of a first relative refractive index difference having a narrow part ( 12 a), and an optical waveguide ( 14 ) of a second relative refractive index difference smaller than the first relative refractive index difference. The optical waveguide is disposed adjacent to the narrow part to optically couple with the narrow part.
