Process for the synthesis of N-Substituted beta-amino nitriles through the ring opening of aziridines

The present invention comprises the simultaneous ring opening and concomitant N-substitution of various N-tosyl aziridines with different aliphatic and aromatic nitriles in presence of catalytic amount of metal triflates to afford different N-substituted beta-amino nitriles in excellent yields and selectivities.
