A light-emitting diode (1) comprises a semiconductor light-emitting device (4) mounted on the front surfaces of lead frames (2, 3) and a light-transmitting resin package (5) covering the front side of the semiconductor light-emitting device (4). A front side portion of the resin package (5) is provided with a convex lens portion (8) for focusing lights emitted from the semiconductor light- emitting device (4) to the front side. A portion of the convex lens (8) which intersects with the optical axis of the convex lens (8) is formed as a circular plane portion (11) for spreading lights emitted from the semiconductor light-emitting device (4) to lateral directions. The lateral portion of the convex lens (8) surrounds the periphery of the circular plane portion (11), and a concave portion (7) is provided so as to surround the side of the convex lens. The lateral portion of the convex lens serves as a part of the side wall of the concave portion (7).
