The process involves comparing time intervals between successive changes of state of an electrical signal at a predetermined duration, where the duration is greater than value of intervals during a normal operation of an electromechanical timer (1). The operation of the timer is interrupted to stop a concerned apparatus or a solarium (2), when the duration exceeds the value of intervals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) an electromechanical timer monitoring and protecting device implementing an electromechanical time monitoring and protecting process (B) an utilization of a electromechanical timer monitoring and protecting process or device for solarium with bulbs emitting ultraviolet rays.
