Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1107744/C2/1> wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aryl, bromoaryl, aralkyl or carboxylic acyl group, the R groups being the same or different, are obtained by the selective reduction of the corresponding diphenolic ketone, one or both of the phenolic groups optionally being etherified or acylated before or after the reduction. Therapeutic compositions having estrogenic properties and useful in promoting the growth of meat-producing animals, contain the above compounds as active ingredient. The composition may be in a form suitable for oral or parenteral application, e.g. as a constituent of an animal foodstuff. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 951,349. |
